I always enjoy the days between Christmas en New Year. They come with a reflective mood and make me think about the past year.
At the start of 2024 I decided not to take part in shows or exhibitions. I was a bit tired of the stress and pressure that it always brings along. I think it was a good idea taking this break. It helped me to spent time on other things and making new connections, like taking part in the #100daysproject for the first time. If I can come up with another good idea I think I will have go at it again in 2025.
I spent quite some time on redesigning and updating my website. I’m proud it’s really bilingual now with a language switch (English and Dutch). I have done some tweaking on it the last couple of days and added my latest project. I also started writing blogposts on it and the newsletter I began in 2023 has grown to more subscribers than I had expected.
My word for the year (connection) led to other interesting experiences like taking part in a swimming contest in open water. There were a few hurdles on the way (that were mostly in my head) but looking back it was very enjoyable and maybe most satisfying experience of the year.
Did I spent enough time on making art? A tricky question. I tend to think: Never enough. But the possible answers depend on how the results are being measured. Is it the amount of finished artworks I made or the amount of hours I spent in my studio? Or is it the time spent thinking about my art. This question has a wide variety of answers. And it’s actually quite difficult to put some kind of measurement on it. It seems that “never enough” might actually be the best answer.
I hope you enjoyed reading this blog. If you would like to hear more about what is happening in my studio, please subscribe to my newsletter
